VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Would you like to help preserve history in South
Jersey? Volunteers are always needed and welcome in both the GCHS Library
and Museum.
In the Library:
-
Typing vital statistics cards
-
Transcribing and indexing manuscripts and source documents
-
Researching/answering correspondence
-
Entering information for various database projects
-
Extracting information from newspaper microfilm
-
Filing vital statistics cards and vertical files
-
Assist library staff in reading room during public hours
-
Copying, folding and stapling various brochures, forms, etc.
-
Special projects: photograph and negative collection,
encapsulating archival materials
In the Museum:
-
Entering information on donor cards/worksheets
-
Placing permanent ID numbers on artifacts
-
Data entry relating to artifacts
-
Photographing artifacts
-
Staffing monthly exhibits
-
Tours for children/adults
-
Trunk Shows (taking artifacts to be shown to various
audiences)
-
Gift Shop
-
Research
-
Creating captions using computer for exhibits
-
Exhibit installation/breakdown
-
Heavy lifting of furniture and/or display cases
-
Housekeeping
-
Hand sewing (repairing textiles, affixing cloth ID tags to
artifacts)
-
Photocopying, envelope stuffing, etc.
