Beginning your research
The DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS) on the DAR website is a new and outstanding resource. The GRS is a combination of several extensive genealogical databases and contains names of Revolutionary patriots, both men and women, whose service (between 1775 and 1783) has been established by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Additional information available may include:
• Dates and places of birth and death;
• Name(s) of wife (wives) or husband(s) and children;
• Type of service;
• State where the patriot lived or served.
Please remember that not every Revolutionary patriot is included in this list, but only those who are ancestors of DAR members. A recent addition to the GRS is the ability to order and download copies online of any application(s) that you believe will help in your own research and application.
If you do not find your patriot on the list do not be discouraged. Contact our chapter registrar, who has considerable experience in researching patriot ancestors, and will have any number of helpful suggestions for you.
