The Haddonfield Chapter of the DAR collects canceled postage stamps for a very important cause, “Stamps for the Wounded.”

This is a 100% volunteer operation. The stamps are delivered to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

All philatelic material — including both US and foreign stamps — in any quantity, is useful. Envelopes are also of interest. This includes those with special postmarks, first-day covers, first airmail flights, and so on.

Please remember that badly torn or defective stamps cannot be used for this project.

Stamps are easy to find. They are in your own mail, your friend’s mail and your business mail. And you may find old stamps in attics, trunks and closets — anywhere you may have a discarded or forgotten letter.

In clipping and saving your stamps please remember the following:

  1. Be SURE to leave at least a quarter-inch margin of paper around the stamps you tear off the envelopes or packages. Please DON'T try to peel or steam stamps off!

  2. If possible, separate the stamps into 3 groups:
    •   Cancelled US
    •   Uncancelled US
    •  Foreign stamps.
It will be helpful if you count the number of stamps in each group and place a total number count on the outside of the package.

Once you have gathered your stamps please bring the stamps to a Chapter meeting or call a chapter officer for mailing instructions.
