Jersey City Board of Education Scrapbooks

 

One of the hidden genealogical treasures of the Jersey City Public Library is a collection of 111 scrapbooks compiled by the Jersey City Board of Education for the period July 1868 to 1948.  The collection includes newspaper clippings and other items such as student and teacher lists.  If you believe your ancestor was connected to the Jersey City Board of Education you may be able to find something of interest in these books.  Unfortunately the books are not indexed and are difficult to research so the librarians can not do any look-ups in these works.  The collection is in the New Jersey Room at the Main Library at the corner of Jersey Avenue and Montgomery Street.
