Heaven, Hell or HOBOKEN!
Well, at least that was the cry during the "War to End All Wars". The reason was because the doughboys in the AEF (World War One's Allied Expeditionary Force) felt that they had only three possible futures: death and the consequent trip to heaven or hell, or, if they survived the war, a voyage home on a ship that would land in Hoboken.
In addition to wartime activity, for over 150 years Hoboken has been home to waves of immigrants. Each of these groups added their own special spice to the great Hoboken atmosphere that we remember or were told about.
