BETHUNE, CROALL, MURRAY, VINCENT posted by John Justin on Thursday, November 20, 1997

Desire ancestor/descendant info on Walter J. VINCENT who m. Helena Ramsey CROALL in 1899. Walter is in the Jersey City directory as residing with Catherin VINCENT, widow of Hiram E. VINCENT, and May ( or possibly Mary or Mamie) VINCENT who I believe, are his mother and sister respectiviely. I have a death certificate for Catherine giving her birth place as Canada and her father as Edward MURRAY of Scotland and Mary ? of France. Helen CROALL is believed to have been born in Glasgow Scotland to James Wilson CROALL and Catherine (possibly BETHUNE?) who wer married on the M.S.Bethune in NY Harbor circa 1873. The CROALL family is said to have been a well-to-do NYC 5th Ave. family trading in shoe manufacturing. Helen CROALL eloped against family wished to marry Walter VINCENT who is said to have been part Indian. Walter and Hiram VINCENT are believed to have been born in NY, possible Saratoga. Walter VINCENT listed at marriage a residence in Newburgh, NY and gave employment as a railroad conductor. Family legend says he was a Trolley conductor which is how he met his wife.. Looking for any sort of good info on all of the above. thanks
