GAERTNER posted by John Gaertner on Friday, February 27, 1998

Can anyone help me? From what I have found, so far, my family has lived in the New York City/New Jersey area for generations. According to the 1900 census, my great-grandfather lived in Hudson County. His name was Harry GAERTNER. He married Kate ? and they had five children. (Robert, my grandfather, Margarett, Harry, Frederich and Edward) There was also a cousin, Henry GAERTNER, living with them. Their address at that time was 543 Jefferson Place. I don't know what town. He was born in 1865 in New York. It said that both of his parents were from Germany making him the first of my family to be born in the U.S. It did not give his parents' names. I don't know if they came to this country as a married couple or met after they got here. I would love to be able to find information about them. Names, where they immigrated from, when they arrived, etc.

Their first son, William ASMUSSEN, was born 6-16-1926 and was baptized in this same church. The dates of death for John and Anna were as follows: John ASMUSSEN died on 8-31-1939 and lived at 331 Adams Street in The Bronx, New York. Anna Laier-ASMUSSEN died on 10-20-1952. They are both buried at Flower Hill Cemetery in North Bergen, New Jersey. They are buried in Row 41 - Block Q - Grave #45. Any information you might have would be of the greatest importance to us.
