The Hunterdon County Historical Society's library has been in existence since the Society was founded in 1885. In 1963, through the bequest of the late Hiram E. Deats, over 3,000 items were added. These included his personal library and notes on the places and families of Hunterdon County. Today, the library consists of 5,000 printed volumes, manuscripts, newspapers, maps, broadsides and photographs gathered and preserve since the Society was founded.

The
HUNTERDON GAZETTE CD
The Final CD for the years 1857 thru 1866 is now available.
CDs for the years 1825-1834, 1835-1844, and 1845-1856 remain available.The Hunterdon Gazette was first published in 1825. Bill Hartman has extracted items from this newspaper, the first published in Hunterdon County. The items with names of people and topics of interest to Hunterdon have been typed to make it easier to read. Names of the people found in the articles and key words have been indexed. The fourth CD in the series of four is now available through the able assistance of Richard R. Williamson and Marshall Lake. The Hunterdon County Historical Society is making an Index and the newspaper articles available to researchers. This is a great undertaking and the results of the work done so far are being published now.

The first CD for the Years 1825 through 1834, the second for 1835 thru 1844, and third CD for 1845 thru 1856 are still available. The fourth and final CD is now completed. The CD was created with the Microsoft operating system. MAC users please click here. The information included on the CD is in MS Word [.doc files], MS Excel [.xls files], both of which are duplicated in the Portable Document Format [pdf] requiring the free ‘Adobe Acrobat Reader’ software to open; and the pictures are ‘.jpg’ files.

Overall Name and Key Word Index for the years preceding the CD (all 42 years in CD #4) and the Index for the period of time covered by each CD. These Indexes include reference to the Year in which the name appears. The name format is the same as that used in the Index on this Web site. [xls & pdf]

· The book: “The Press in Hunterdon County 1825-1925” by Hubert G. Schmidt is included with permission of the Hunterdon County Democrat. This is included with CDs #2, #3, & #4.
· The book: “Hunterdon County Place Names” 2nd edition is included only on CD #4. This was originally compiled by Phyllis B. D’Autrechy and has been updated by William Hartman from material found in the Hunterdon Gazette. The Book is included with permission of the Hunterdon County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
Each CD is $15.00 for members of the Society or $20 for non-members. To order one of the CDs, print out an order form and send to the Hunterdon County Historical Society at the address provided on the form.
Checks drawn on Banks outside the USA must include an additional $5.00 processing fee charge by our Bank. CDs sent to addresses outside the USA must include an additional fee of $2.00 to cover postage. To order a copy of any of the CDs, please complete the order form. Read feedback [Updated 11/08/04] for comments from persons who have received the CD. To Repeat: Mac users please note that the CD may NOT open with the MAC platform. Because of a limited number of requests for this platform, the production expense is presently prohibitive.
