PAGE 3 The 90 year old Tabernacle Baptist Church building on the corner of Main and Jackson Streets in South River was razed so that the land could become a parking lot to be used by church members who now meet in a building across the street. November 12, 1998 will mark the day, 128 years ago, that 12 worshipers met in Ezekiel Wade's home and decided to organize a church. The spring of 1870 saw a meeting house dedicated and in 1908 the brick church was built by the congregation for $10,000. Rev. Charles Johnson, the church's pastor, said that water damage to the roof forced members to move into the new building.
