T.A. Gillespie/Morgan Depot Explosion

Mr. Gale Haggard has donated three letters written by his great uncle Homer Haggard, Sr. in October 1918. Homer, Sr was an engineer employed at the Perth Amboy plant that blew up, and he also lived on the premises. He and his wife, Lena, lost everything they owned in the explosion. Moreover, lena was expecting their first and only child at any moment when the explosion occurred. By some miracle, the baby, Homer Haggard, Jr. did not arrive for about another 10 days, but during all that time the 1918 flu epidemic was raging and it was almost impossible to find doctors, nurses, or a hospital bed.
