Roman Numerals
Home Up

Here's an interesting link for Roman Numerals: http://www.guernsey.net/~sgibbs/roman.html

For those of us that need a short reminder (myself in particular) of how to decipher Roman Numerals.

I1 XI11
II2 XII12
III3 XIII13
IV4 XIV14
V5 XV15
VI6 XVI16
VII7 XVII17
VIII8 XVIII18
IX9 XIX19
X10 XX20

That was the easy part, now for some of the really fun ones.

XXI21 IC99
XXIX29 C100
XXX30 CI101
XL40 CC200
XLVII48 D500
IL49 DC600
L50 CM900
LX60 M1000
XC90 MDCLXVI1666
XCVIII98 MCMLXX1970
   MM2000

How did we get to 1970
M = 1000
CM = 900
LXX = 70

How about 1863 - MDCCCLXIII
M = 1000
DCCC = 800
LX = 60
III = 3

MMV = 2005
