The prosperity of a country depends first and foremost upon the success it achieves in the field of agriculture, and our farmers are the most important Members of the community. Among those successfully identified with this line of industry at Whippany, Morris county, New Jersey, is Livingston PETRY. George PETRY, his father, was born in New York City, in 1806, and died in Morris county in 1893.He purchased what is now the PETRY homestead, in Morris county, in 1862, and resided on it until his death. He married (first) Amelia SMITH, by whom he had ten children; (second) Jane COBB, by whom he had but one child, Livingston. Livingston PETRY was born in Passaic county, New Jersey, in 1858. He was a very young child when his parents removed to Morris County and was educated in the public schools of that section, then commenced to assist his father in the cultivation of the homestead. He has made many improvements upon this property, both before and after it was his own possession, and it consists of sixty acres of land which is utilized to the best advantage. He is engaged in general farming, and also dairy farming, and makes a decided success of both branches. He has taken an active part in the public affairs of the community, giving his support to the Republican party, and has served as a member of the township committee and of the school board. Fraternally he is a member of the local grange, Patrons of Husbandry. Mr PETRY married Mary W. HOPPING, and has had children:
