Artist Jean Louis Gerome Ferris
Presently in the Library of Congress

We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the months of September, October, November, December, March, April, May, and June, usually at 1 P.M., at a local library, and occasionally at a member's home.

The theme for our meetings mesh with the goals of the DAR and include PATRIOTISM, HERITAGE, CITIZENSHIP, CONSERVATION, HISTORY, EDUCATION, and NATIONAL DEFENSE.

We may have a guest speaker who is involved with water conservation, for example. We may present a video show on "The Wives of the Presidents," or about patriots who helped the cause in ways other than fighting. A member might talk about a hobby such as coin silver spoons and their importance in colonial times, or the history of the flag and its evolution to the present day. As you can see, our topics are varied and interesting.

During the coming year we will:

* Present Good Citizen awards to deserving seniors at the Point
Pleasant and Point Pleasant Beach high schools.

* Present Bronze Awards to a deserving member of each of the ROTC
units of Brick and Wall high schools. They must demonstrate
outstanding work in their unit, in addition to maintaining an excellent
scholastic record.

* Support our DAR schools with gifts and donations. Stamps are
collected for the veterans, while soup and Betty Crocker labels
and coupons are collected for the six DAR schools we support--Hillside
College in MA, Hindman Settlement School in KY, Berry College in GA,
Crossnore School in NC, Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in AL, and
Tammassee DAR School in SC.

* Donate magazines and books to local libraries, and
judge the elementary school poster contest.
