Description: This talk will provide an overview of such civil and secular Italian record types as conscription and military records of various sorts; passports, passenger lists, and other emigration and immigration documents; catasti (tax records); censi (various types of census records); notarial records; university records; and ecclesiastical records of different types additional to the basic vital record-keeping done by parishes, including status animarum or stato delle anime records, diocesan records, and others. A handout packet containing a concise text version of the presentation will be given out.
Speaker: Daniel Donatacci, MA, MFA, MLIS is a professional genealogist, specializing in Italian genealogy, and in U.S. research in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. He is at work on both certification with the BCG and a PhD in literature at Brandeis University, where his research focuses on poetry, cultural studies, and comparative English and Italian literature. He divides his time between the New York Tri-state area and Cambridge, Massachusetts.
