General Meetings of the Society are held five times a year at the
South River Museum--Old School Baptist Church
64-66 Main Street, South River.


The meetings, which are open to the public, begin at 7:00 p.m. and include a short program and refreshments.

Annual Meeting:
It's all history now. The program will feature show-and-tell from members of the audience. Please bring a piece of South River memorabilia or a memory to share.


February 26 - The Raritan River Rail Road from South Amboy to New Brunswick:Al Baumann, Past President of The Sayreville Historical Society and member of the Raritan River Rail Road Historical Society (as well as other railroad history groups), will present a slide tour of the RRRR.
April 23 - Along the Raritan River: South Amboy to New Brunswick:Jason Slesinski, Borough Historian of Sayreville and Vice-President of the Sayreville Historical Society, will use historical maps and photographs to tell the story of the river's natural beauty and resources, historic floods, economic enterprise, devastating pollution, and continued renewal and recovery.
June 25 - 1914: The Year that Changed the World, the United States, and New Jersey. Brian Armstrong, President of the Society, will give a presentation covering a wide range of topics including the start of World War I; the US conflict with Mexico; introduction of the Federal Reserve System, federal taxation, and direct election of US Senators; President Woodrow Wilson and the presidency of the US; stories about Charlie Chaplin and other celebrities; and New Jersey news about the 1914 NJ Blizzard, Ft. Lee movie industry, the Standard Oil Trust and Thomas Edison.
September 17 - South River Houses from the Van Dyke Reid Collection, Main Street 1894- 1906. Society President Brian Armstrong will present a history of some of the South River homes that have passed the century mark and provide the audience with a visual map. The concentration will be on residences located on Main Street.
