Richard & Margaret Powers of Santa Rita, NM. I can't find out any thing about
them. They came to NM from Colorado in 1900. Both are originally from County

on James H. CRITTENDEN buried in Georgetown Cemetery. born 1869 died 1915.

Sent: Thursday, October 07, 1999. Subject: Grant Query. My name is Casey Lewis
and I would like help on finding some history on my family roots. My mom and dad
still live in Cliff, N.M. Their names are Claude Jesse Lewis and Kay Ann Lewis.
My granddad and great granddad are both buried their in Silver City. Their names
are Claude and Jesse Lewis. The help that I need is from my great granddad. I
know he came out of Oklahoma to Texas and then to the Silver City area. My
granddad (Claude also had a brother by the name of Jesse T Lewis) lived and died
in Sacramento, Cal. Jesse (great granddad) was married to Mary Barew but she did
not come with them to Silver City. Any help would really be appreciated. Thank

Antone KNAUER and Burba ALLEN KNAUER ran boarding house (now Silver City Museum)
in Silver City approximately 1910-1918. Does anyone have any information on

Sent: Saturday, August 21, 1999. Subject: Grant County Query. I am looking for
information on JAMES BUCHANAN "BUCK" FRANS. The last information I have is of
him living in Silver City, NM and he was age 75 and the year was 1932. He was
born in Texas, went to Washington territory in 1880 and then later to Silver
City, NM. His sister was my great grandmother. Any information anyone could give
us would be appreciated. In our records there is no reference to a spouse and/or
children. If anyone has any information I can be contacted at bjself@neto.com.

Date: Tuesday, July 20, 1999. Subject: GRANT COUNTY QUERY. Searching for
information concerning ZONA (MCCOLLOUGH) BURTS. My grandfather THOMAS LEE BURTS
and ZONA were married in Tombstone, Arizona, June 1906. Their place of residence
was Hachita, NM. They returned to Hachita, then moved to Lordsburg in 1908. My
grandfather ran a saloon in Lordsburg called the Queen Saloon. They returned to
Hachita a year or two later and records show residence until August 1913. I have
been unable to find out what happened to ZONA. Did they divorce or did she die?

Date: Friday, July 16, 1999. Subject: Grant County Query. Am looking for
information on a gggrandfather. We believe he may have been living in Silver
City at an early age. Have been told that his family wned a silver mine in Texas
or Mexico in th early 1800's. Raymond KNIGHT born 1813 son of William KNIGHT and
Theotese BELLEGARDE. Was told he killed a man, and his mother had him leave the
country or be killed himself. He married my gggrandmother Laurenza BREAU of

Ranch which was on Apache Creek NM, in the 1920 and 1930 era. Owner was Vess
Jones and I think ranch was run by brother Henry Jones. My Grandmother Effie
Jones was a sister. Does anyone know of this ranch or the Jones family? Thanks,

Date: Monday, June 28, 1999. Subject: Grant County Query. I am looking for any
information on DANIEL EDWARD NEAL(sic NEIL),(JAMES DANIEL NEAL) who lived at
Pine Cienega in the 1880's. He was involved in some way in the death of a Pete
Frasier. He may have also been involved in the death of the Hall brothers. I
would also like to know exactly where Pine Cienega was located. Dan Hittle

Answer to one question: Pine Cienega Creek is in Grant County, two miles east of
community of Mule Creek. Mule Creek is 46 miles NW of Silver City on NM 78.

Date: Sunday, June 27, 1999. Subject: Grant County Query. HERRING Family quest.
Looking for information on Calvin Herring. He had a sawmill around Pinos Altos
in the late 1880s to early 1890s. He was originally from NC. Was a major in the
27th NC Infantry. His sons, Leary HERRING and Jefferson Davis HERRING settled in
NM. Calvin committed suicide after two of his children were abducted and was
buried on his own property. His youngest daughter, Lula HERRING remained in the
area her entire life. Another daughter, Sallie Rouse HERRING married James
Columbus Anderson in 1895. Anderson was from Eddy (then Lincoln) County. Any
information on Calvin and family would be appreciated. Thanks, Sally in Houston

Date: Friday, June 18, 1999. Subject: Grant Query. Seeking information about
ELIZABETH F SCHELL. Reported to have lived in Silver City between 1870 - 1880.
(Oldest daughter Margaret Schell was born there). Elizabeth later moved to the
Globe Arizona area. By 1880 she had remarried and was living in Pinal County,
Arizona. In 1882, another daughter, my gmother, Cora Beach was born at Pioneer
Mining Camp, south of Globe. Any info would be appreciated. Barbara Prestridge

missing connection, James P. WOOD, b. Patrick Co. VA in 1836. The 1870 Federal
Census shows a James P. WOOD in Grant County, NM. I wonder if anyone knows
anything about this James P. WOOD or could Lookups resources, but maybe someone

C. Taylor was born in Dewitt County,TX. on May 5,1883. His family settled around
Santa Rita or Central. He married Vivian Moss, who was born July 1, 1893 at Moss
Place, Cliff. I am searching for any information on my grandfathers parents or

any information on my grand father and father,as I have tracked them to grant
county and endee NM. Father was Wanda Buck Barnes Grandfather was William
Barnes. Also would like any information on Endee New Mexico as it seams to no

of a mine located in or near Santa Rita. About 1936, my grandfather, William
Mitchell LINN, came to this area to work in a mine owned by Edgar BOONE. Any
additional information about the mine or any sources about the mine and its

Subject: Grant County Query. Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999. James Newham and Harriet
Baldwin Newham. Their first child, Mary Hannah Newham was born December 8, 1873
at Silver City, NM. By 1876 they were located in Montana. I am trying to find
relatives or the birthplace of James (my paternal great-grandfather) so I can
trace my ancestry. I was told he was a miner. Any information you can give me is
greatly appreciated. Please advise me of any lookup fees so I can send a check.

Subject: Grant Query. Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999. I am attempting to locate a
William Antrim. He came from Kansas about 1873, first to Santa Fe and then to
Silver City. He married a Catherine Bonney McCarty at the First Presbyterian
Church. She died in September 1874. If you can tell me who to contact concerning
the graves, or any related information I would appreciate this. Thanks very

died 15 December 1966 in Silver City. Looking for any living relative or person
who can obtain the obituary for me from your local paper files. I finally traced
EVA to Silver City after several years of research. Any information on this

information on Patrick Daniel FLAVIN, his wife Bridget FITZGERALD. They were
married in Tauton, MA in 1869. They were in Silver City or Georgetown, NM about
1876-1882 in Grant county. I think they had Fitzgerald relatives there at the

Date: Tue, 16 Feb 1999. Subject: VILLA, VILLAREAL, Grant Query. My grandmother,
Francis Villa, was born in Silver City in 1906. The family subsequently moved to
California. Her family may have been Villareal but was shortened to Villa after
arrival in California. Her parents were Marcial Villa (Villareal) and Magdalena
