2001 Grant County Queries

Last revision: May 24, 2001

Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2001 3:21 PM. Subject: Grant County Query. The RANDALL,
HUGHES, MARTIN, BURCH, AKE Family. James HUGHES married Celcelia MARTIN (B 1872
in Texas) aprox. 1890-94 in Arizona or New Mexico. The were located at the
Chapperal Mine near Prescott AZ in November 1895 when daughter Lillian was born.
According to the 1910 Census Cecelia had 5 children and only 2 were living at
that time. James reportedly died in Shakespeare, Grant, New Mexico [now Hildalgo
Co.] between 1895-1900. Cecelia then married Benjamin Wiley RANDALL b 1841 in
New Jersey. This marriage evidently occured shortly after the 1900 Census was
taken as he is living alone on the census and unmarried. They are listed as
married 10 years on the 1910 Census. I would love to find this marriage record.
I am looking for the burial of James HUGHES, the burial of the 3 missing
children, the name of Lillian's surving sibling, supposedly a brother. Also
where is Cecelia buried?? I know Benjamin Wiley RANDALL died 21 Feb 1922 and is
buried in Lordsburg's Mountain View Cemetery, in HIdalgo County. James HUGHES
and Cecelia MARTIN HUGES RANDALL are not buried in that cemetery as far as I can
tell. Lillian married Charles Robert BURCH, son of Robert BURCH and Mary AKE in
1914. I am sure it was a Catholic wedding. Would that be hard to locate? Am
looking for newspapers or other sources. Thank you, Laurie Werner Castillo.

Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2001 3:18 AM. Subject: Grant County Query. I am
anxiously hoping that you can help me find information on a deputy Sheriff in
Silver City area in 1885. His name is John 'Fletcher' Fairchild. He was a deputy
sheriff at Georgetown, New Mexico in the early 1880's and was written up in the
Silver City Enterprise for capturing a murderer in Georgetown after having a
shoot out with him. He resigned his office in 1885 but was still in the area
when his daughter, Anna, was born in March 1886. Any information that you could
find on Fletcher, his daughter Anna, his wife Pearl, or son Frank would be
greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jody Cadle.

anyone have information on an orphanage that was a part of Fort Bayard in the
early 1900's? Would records be available for children left there after a
parent's death? Thanks for any help. Janelle

Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2001 12:17 AM. Subject: Grant County Queries. I am
looking for information regarding my great grandparents, Simon Estrada, married
to Mary C. Chacon (who was born June 4, 1884 somewhere in the area of Las Cruces
most likely). Mary's parents were (mother) Remedios Gallegos and (father)
Guadalupe Chacon. Simon died in Fierro, and my great grandmother married Simon
De La Torres, from that town which "was owned by that family" (per great
grandma). Any help and references you can send would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Kathy Trujillo-Jasperson.
(Fierro, NM was located in Grant Co., six miles NE of Bayard and 2 miles N of
Hanover.)
