I am
working on the FORD family. The father, his adult children and
their respective families moved to the Alma (Catron County), NM area
from TX via Carlsbad (Eddy County), NM around 1900.
I found a couple of daughters on the 1900 NM
Census, but I can't find the parents or Meriah's mother anywhere. I am
looking for any information, documentation, rumors, or anything else
on this family.
Head: Benjamin Franklin "Frank" FORD, b.
April 9, 1847 in Converse, Sabine Parish, LA; d. between March
23-October 23, 1923 in Lordsburg, Hidalgo Co., NM
Wife: Meriah (Marie) C. PURCELL, b.
February 12, 1848, probably in Sabine Parish, LA; d. June 6, 1915 in
Cactus Flat, Grant Co., NM.
Meriah's mysterious mother:
Cynthia CHRISTIE (or Christen) was b.
about 1825 in LA, Canada, or France. She was a midwife who spoke
French, but looked like a huge Indian. She had a dark complexion,
black hair and brown eyes. She was obese and over 6' tall. Her
husband, Mr. PURCELL (Procelle?), was supposed to have fought
in the Civil War, and didn't come home after the war was over. Several
years later, he showed up and his wife drove him off. The family never
heard from him again. Whether this is true or not, I don't know.
Cynthia moved to NM with her daughter Mariah and died there in 1908 or
1910. |

I am
searching for at least four MOORE sisters who settled in Grant
County, New Mexico: Margaret 'Maggie'
MOORE JONES, b. April 1900
Anna Pearl MOORE THOMAS, b. abt.
1904
Verna MOORE JOHNSON, b. abt. 1907
Mary Elizabeth MOORE HERRING, b.
abt. 1913.
Their father was Isaac 'Ike' MOORE
from Wink, Winkler County, Texas, and my great-great grandfather's
brother. He ran a boarding house and died in 1952. Ike and his wife,
Mary E. TWAITE MOORE, are buried in Kermit, Texas.
I am also interested in information regarding
other sisters of these women.
Ike's obituary (1952) listed all four of these
sisters in Silver City, Hurley, or Santa Rita. They were not listed in
the 1930 census at the family home.
Mary Elizabeth's husband, R.A. HERRING
is listed in the SSDI, having died in December 1983 in New Mexico. |

Emma August
FLICK WAGNER, born 1893 in New Braunfels, Texas, removed to Central,
Grant County, New Mexico, in about 1925. Per the 1930 census of
Grant County, she had eight children under the age of 13, and owned
a restaurant. The children were Nors, Geneva, Fred, Roy, Carole,
Robert, Russell, and Daisy Ann WAGNER. Those children would be in
their 70s or early 80s as of now, June 2003.
By 1943, Augusta "Gusta" and Fred WAGNER had
divorced, and Gusta was remarried to Jack A. YARNELL, by whom she
had no more children.
August "Gusta" was in New Mexico, presumably in
Central, in 1943.
Any information would be
appreciated. |

My father, Enrique DOMINGUEZ, was born
February 1, 1910 in Hanover, New Mexico. My uncle, Jose Alfredo

My
grandfather's sister, Elizabeth ("Bet") DIXON, married Henry
ROUNTREE in Greene County, North Carolina, and later moved to
New Mexico, probably before or about 1900.
I found on one of your sites that a Henry
ROUNTREE was the postmaster in Dwyer for a short time. This
might be Bet's husband. I would like any information on this
couple.
If I can locate where she is buried, I plan to
visit the area.
Thanks for any help. |

I am
searching for any relative of my mother, who was adopted. Her name
at birth was Bettye Evelyne McELHINEY, born September 11,

She was adotped by Jack D. and Mertie L.

My mother was told that she had a brother about
two years older than she, and a female cousin, also living in

My ancestor,
Martin J. McGUINN, was stationed at Ft. Bayard, NM (ARMY)
during WWI. I am looking for alternative sources for his military
records.
The Personnel Record Center in St. Louis, MO
cannot find his military records, probably due to the fire in 1973.
Does anyone have any information on other
possible sources of those military records?
Thank you. |

I'm seeking
more history and details about the U-Bar Ranch at Alamo Hueco,
1900-1945. A manager--Bob MOOREHEAD, was my great uncle. My
mother, Betty CALLAWAY, stayed with the MOOREHEAD family
many times and attended school with them.
I'm looking for an obituary of Bob MOOREHEAD
and/or a general history of the U-Bar Ranch at any time during its
existence. I understand it was very old.
I'm also seeking any descendants of Bob
MOOREHEAD who may still be found. I have pictures to share.
Please e-mail me. Thank you. |
