The Dora town site was not recorded with the county clerk, so there is no public record of it, but it was an active town from the earliest pioneer days.  It had a post office, several stores and other businesses, active church services, and an active school system.  The Dora post office was established 29 August 1906, with Frederick Humphrey as its first postmaster, and is one of the few remaining rural post offices in Roosevelt County.  In August 1908 it was announced that Dora would have mail three times a week, shipped from Red Lake, instead of regular mail routes.

Mt. Zion was the Dora cemetery and it served many of the surrounding communities, and was perhaps the largest cemetery in the area.

*NOTE: 20 May 1999, from Linda Wright Osborn come information that there is another Wright burial here.  Anna WRIGHT, 1874-1944.  Linda would like to correspond with anyone researching any of the Wrights listed here.   She also advised that Mittie E. COULTER was sister to George Harmon Wright and Arthur Jackson Wright.  And that Rhonda Wright is misspelled on tombstone, should be RHODA Wright.  Rhoda was a sister to Arthur Jackson's first wife, Ruth Wheeler Wright, who is buried in Mt. Ida, AR.
