May 16 and 17, 2003

Friday and Saturday May 16, and 17, 2003

Friday: 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Library open for research

Saturday: 9:00 a.m. Registration - Refreshments available
10: a.m. Morning Speaker:
Bob Bearor is a retired Firefighter and Adirondack Guide. He and his wife Holly, are veteran re-enactors and educators, who have presented Living History programs to schools since 1982. Bob is author of The Battle on Snowshoes< French and Indian War Battle-sites: A Controversy and the series Leading by Example volumes I-III. The Battle on Snowshoes is the best selling book on the French and Indian War and has been filmed in part for television. Bob will be presenting a talk on Leading by Example Partisan Fighters & Leaders of New France 1660-1760 Volume Two, Daniel Greysolon Duluth, Madeleine Vercheres, St. Luc de la Corne, Daniel Beaujeu and Jean-Daniel Dumas, with a brief chapter on native foods for wilderness survival. This work deals with these mostly forgotten leaders of New France during the French and Indian War period. These fighters early on adopted North American Indian tactics and became masters of "la petite guerre." Another interesting point is Bob's chapter on modern-day trekking and how it relates to the study of history. Woodland experience is essential to understanding the North American eighteenth-century
mind. Without it we merely read the words of an author. With it, you posses a three-dimensional portrait of reality.

Mr. Bearor will sign copies of his books for you and will also have
copies of his latest book for sale.

1:00 p. m. Afternoon speaker:
Jim Millard is an Instructional Technologist with Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. He has been publishing America's Historic Lakes on the web since early 1997.
