America Online has confirmed that email sent
via the service is being delayed due to an unusual spike in demand.
The problem started Monday when some email sent to
AOL addresses began to be returned, in some cases
clogging up the servers of other ISPs. AOL
says it has now added enough
mail servers to handle about a million
pieces of email each hour. But the
effects of the original jam are lingering. AOL
could not say when the system would clear.
