Bob and other Conklin researchers:
This was put together over the years, based originally on data I found at
Huntington Historical Society and added to as I gathered information. As
anything second or third hand this may not be totally accurate. I'm
looking for any corrections or comments.
Naomi CONKLIN born 1740, wife of Joseph LEWIS [1739-1781]:
daughter of
JOHN CONKLIN^4, John^3, Timothy^2, John^1. He is #50 in Conklin Mann's TAG
article of the 1940's. I have a xerox of a typed copy of Conklin Mann's
unpublished notes given to me by the late Brush genealogist Russell BRUSH
of Greenlawn, L.I.
Here's an outline of what it says [guess I ought to post the entire thing
sometime]...
John^4 born 1704/05 at Huntington ... ship captain on L. I. Sound "closely
associated with the commercial activities of the town [Town of Huntington]
and of Queens Village [Lloyd family manorial grant on Lloyd's Neck, not
modern Queens Village east of Jamaica]" ... he carried L. I. and coastal
Connecticut products to NYC and Boston ... had a thatch meadow at Lloyd's
Neck .... wife was Mary "but her surname is unrecovered" [isn't that
always the case !!!] ... "it may have been Scudder " [I'm not so sure ...
I don't think this is shown by Scudder research ... although anything is
possible with those cousin-cousin marriages at Huntington at that time]...
gravestone is still [at least it was a few years ago] at the Old Burying
Ground [Old Huntington Cemetery] on Main Street in Huntington village.

With KETCHAM, LEWIS, BRUSH and SAMMIS marriages we are getting into really
MAJOR HUntington families ... esp. Ketcham, Brush and Sammis.
Until something better shows up, I have not listed any mother for Naomi^5,
other than Mary ----
