I am looking for a link to Peter Conklin (my grt grandfather) who lived in
Orange County, NY and was probably born circa 1819/1820, but do not have a
date of death. Would like to find name of Parents or siblings which I think
will lead me to one of the well documented family histories of Conklins in
New York.
He appears in the1850 NY Census, Cornwall, Line 144, Dwelling 117, Family
#121 shows: Peter Conklin age 30 as Male Laborer, born NY. Wife Anne E age
24; Francis E. age 2, Charles H. age 8/12. NY State census of 1865, town of
Blooming Grove, pg 30, line 40, shows his age as 46, was a Basket maker. The
record shows that he served as a Private (Civil War) in the 168th NY
regiment, Co I, entered 23 Jan 1863 (approx age 42) and was released after 2
mos, at the end of the enlistment, no wounds & good health. Living with him:
wife Anne Eliza Merritt (36) and son Annanias Conklin (10.)
His wife died a widow 6 Jan 1890 and is buried in Washingtonville, NY but
the headstone has no information on Peter. They had 3 sons who lived through
adulthood: Francis E., Annanias and William E.
There many Conklins who lived in NYS in the 1800's and the Orange County
Genealogy Society has data on many of them. There were some families that
were laborers or not well enough known to have left records that are easy to
follow and that is my case. Would appreciates any leads.
