To add to this, I saw a theory by Conklin Mann that the earliest English
Conklins MAY HAVE BEEN Italian glassmakers or POSSIBLY Flemish
glassmakers who migrated to England in the late 1400's or so to make
glass. The English seemed to have lacked the skill and depended on Italian
and/or Flemish imports.
I have no idea of the source .. I just remember reading it. Does anyone
have any ideas on the subject?
