At the request of Jerry Dafoe <jcdafoe@ix.netcom.com>, I've created
the GEN-NYS-L mailing list for the discussion of genealogical research
in New York State.
A couple of administrative comments about the mailing list:
* The list is being run on my home Linux box that is connected to the
Internet only twice a day -- around 6:30am and sometime after 8pm
Eastern Time. This means that the turnaround time for mail sent to
gen-nys-l@wildcat.mv.com may be upwards to one day. I don't expect
this list to be a high volume or one that needs a fast response
time, so it shouldn't be a problem.
* My work email address is: nozell@zko.dec.com and my home email
address is: nozell@wildcat.mv.com. Send questions about the mailing
list to either one or both. I only read mail sent "home" after 8pm
New Hampshire, USA time, but read mail to the "work" address almost
immediately.
* I'm having problems getting mailing list archiving working using
Linux/Majordomo-19.3/perl5.001.n. This means the mailing list
archives will not be available until something is worked out. Using
procmail, I'm saving all the traffic and will eventually make them
available.
* Soon I'll be creating a web page for gen-nys-l. The location will
be http://www.mv.com/ipusers/wildcat/gen-nys-l.html. Suggestions
for content cheerfully accepted. Ideas using Java?
Enjoy!
