In the Spring of 1947, I wrote to Eva L.Sweet or Mrs Sidney W. Sweet
of Theresa, NY and recieved this answer:
She wrote that many years ago, three brothers left their native
Wales and cameto America. One brother went to Canada and the other two
remained in the colonies, New England Section. Her husband's
grandfather in the early 800s settled in Wellesly Island and later
moved to Plessis, NY. He had three sons, and one daughter,
Samuel, William Dennis, Sylvanius and Marie
Sydney W. Sweet's grandfather was William D. Sweet. When the
Patriot was started, Sylvanius and William D. joined to free Canada and
was taken prisoner at the windmill and taken to Kingston or Fort Henry
. Sylvanius was hanged for shooting an officer. William was pardoned
for his youth, later he served three years in the Civil War. and was
killed. Samuel had a son Benjamin who had two sons, Jrome and Bert,
they lived in Lewis County, NY. Of the other family, there was Capt.
Sweet who had several daughters and one son, Vernon was also a Captain.
