I want to ditto Ruth Hoden's sentiments. I don't want to see
the message board junked up with personal responses. I too
respond directly to the person making the request.

I too would like to say that I am reluctant to post a general
"I would be willing to help answer questions in XXXXX county"

I posted a specific message one time on alt.genealogy stating
that if you e-mailed an exact name for XXXXX county I would
be happy to search my 37,000 name database for that county.

I received over 50 messages, and 30 of them were "fishing
expeditions", you know, "Iowa 1880 census says John Doe
was born NY", "Would you check and see if he's there"

Also got about 10 messages "Would you send me all the
SMITHS in your database".

It's much easier to just scan the postings and privately
answer any pertinent postings.

That's my .02 cents.

Tom
