GEN-NYS-L: Surprises and Responses to Queries

Hi Jerry and all,

Power has been off and on here all day due to the ice storm causing trees
to fall on power lines and from the lines themselves breaking from the
weight of the ice. To native Californians new to this area, it's all a
little scary. Earthquakes we can handle, but this is a new to us.

By the way, quite unexpectedly, today by snail-mail I received FIVE
generations further back following a query I posted about our Kent family
of Nova Scotia. Was the best present I've received in a long time. All
thanks to a GEN-NYS-L query.

Regarding Jerry's comments about lack of responses on-line to
queries...From my limited experience with Roots-L, SOP seems to be for
subscribers to answer queries directly via e-mail to the person who asked
(except for the occasional thread-which-won't-die). I've e-mailed
GEN-NYS-L members directly. Are we supposed to respond to the whole
list??... Which is ok with me as long as that's what's expected.

In fact, when a subject comes up that I'm interested in hearing a response
about, I've e-mailed a request to that person asking that they share the
replies/answers with me -- which they very generously have.

Anyway, maybe that's why Jerry was disappointed about not seeing as much
dialogue as he'd hoped for.

Lorna
