UP above Mayfield now lies the abandoned settlement of Tomantown/Dutch Town,
its still on the topographic maps with a jeep trail...settled by Wendel
Toman a German about 1828..he moved out after his wife died in the 1860s,
had two sons Bennet C. and John, the latter was an idiot.. Story is he
burried his wife there and the last resident of the area kept her
grave...(there is also an abandoned cemetery there..its not marked on the
map and was accidentially dug into in the late 1930s when they were fixing a
logging road/trail)..
anyway along about 1930 something..someone (a descendant?) apparently came
up and dug up the remains of Fanny Toman (nee Yale) and took them to Long
Island?...Anyone know of any cemetery lists for Long Island?
