I own a copy of "1991 Directory of New York State County and Municipal
Historians." It is a directory of all the historians in the State. In 1919 a
law was passed that each municipal government was required to appoint a
historian. Thus each town, village and county is supposed to have a
historian. Realistically, at the time of the newest printing (1991) some of
the positions were vacant. In part that is because the pay is minimal.

Over the next few weeks I will be typing and uploading as messages to this
list the Historians listed in the book. When done I will put the entire file
up as a web page.
