GEN-NYS-L: Stephen Ward's parents?
Mon, 5 Feb 1996 11:32:00 -0500

I have reached a total dead end in locating records relating to Stephen Ward.
I am asking for help and suggestions. His bio is below as established by
records I could find.
Stephen Ward b. circa 1806 Probably in Dutchess County,N.Y.
Married to Lucinda Anson, daughter of Lebbeus Anson of Stanford. She was
born 1806 and they married between 1824 and1829; probably in N.Y.
They were located in the Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County census in 1830.
In the 1840 Federal Census they were in Michigan.
A document (farmers bio) in a paragraph on his son Artemas says they were
from Rochester.
I suspect that either Stephen or Lucinda had relatives in Rochester and
they stopped there on their way to Michigan.
A son John died enroute to Michigan. They had a son William b.1830, son
Lorenzo b.1835, son George b.1836......all born in New York State.
Della b. 1838, Mary and Edgar b. 1841, and Artemas b.1843 were all born
in Michigan.
Lucinda d. 1858 (from family information).
Stephen married Nancy Smokes in 1865.
Stephen was living with his son George in 1870 in Wayne County, Michigan.
Nancy was not mentioned.
Stephen died 1878, probably in Wayne County, Michigan but no record can
be found.
I am interested more in obtaining information as to his parents names and
locations than I am in later info. Since Dutchess County had a large Quaker
and American Baptist population, it is possible he may have been of these
faiths but no records I have found indicate his membership. The American
Baptist central office has no records of church memberships, only officiating
pastors. The Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church has no listing of Stephen
or his parents.
I have hit the wall for sources since innumerable hours have been spent with
the FHC records without success. I would appreciate any help from the list
and other WARD family researchers or descendents of the other children of
Stephen and Lucinda. Thank you for any help offered.
