Hello,
I have a line of my wife's side that includes Frank(Francis) CAMMAROTA
who married a Rose MOROCCO(sp?). They both emigrated via Calabria, Italy,
according to family sources. Frank was a barber who had a shop where the
Holland Tunnel Tollbooth is now in Manhattan. He had at least one brother,
Joseph.
His children include Jennie(born 1893), Hilda(Alda)(born 1898, died
1986), Joseph, Adell(Louise), David Francis(born 1899, died 1959), and Rudolph.
The son of Hilda resides in the Wisconsin area, and they say that Frank and
Rose are buried in Queens, NY. Rose was killed by a truck as she crossed the
street near the barber shop with a chicken in her hand. Joseph(son of Frank)
never married, for he had down's syndrome.
Preliminary information from the 1900 NY census shows:
1900
V117 ED 7 Sheet 19 Line 73 New York Co., Manhattan, Canal Street #422
Cammaroto, Frank head W M Sep 1857 42 Italy
,Rosina wife W F Oct 1865 Italy
,Joseph son W M Mar 1891 NY
,Vinguza dau W F Jan 1893 NY
,Vingaro son W M Apr 1894 NY
,Alda dau W F Jan 1898 NY
This soundex card says see Gambaretta & Caminaroto. This family is also listed
under those names.
Does anyone have any further iformation on Frank and Rosina(date of
emigration, etc.?) I realize that "rough" immigration dates are available from
the 1900 census, but I have not actually seen the copy yet, the above information
is from a lookup that someone did for me.
TIA
