In the 1850 census there is an older couple listed with George and
Sarah. They are Lawrence and Rachel VOSBURGH. I've just been to
the New York State Library researching the Vosburghs. Isaac Vosburgh
moved to Berkshire County and he had six sons, according to records
in a petition for a Revolutionary War petition. None were named
Lawrence. There are three other Lawrences. One has washed out
completely. The other two are in Coxsackie and Claverack. Might it
be possible that Lawrence was an un-noted son? However, he would
have been born when his father was 14.
Of course, there is the third option that Lawrence Vosburgh was a
Mohican Indian that took a Dutch name. My ancestor John VAN GUILDER
was.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
