GEN-NYS-L: PUDICK, Queens, NY

I am interested in any information about the parents and
descendents of Johann Carl "Charles" PUDIG of Prussia.
Charles PUDIG was born in Prussia in 1809 and moved to
Kurland (Latvia) where he married his wife Anna Louisa ?
around 1836. They moved to southern Russia around 1840,
and eventually came to NY city in 1849. Charles and his
wife had eight children:

1. Carl Julius "Charles" (b. 1837 in Kurland)
2. Teodor Edwart (b. 1839 in Kurland)
3. Ernst Wilem (b. 1841 in Russia)
4. Johann Jacob (b. 1843 in Russia)
5. Ludwig Samuel (b. 1846 in Russia)
6. Fridrich Adolf (b. 1851 in NY)
7. Wilhelm Christian (b. 1856 in NY)
8. Edwart Albert (b. 1859 in NY)

Various members of the family have used various spellings of the name
PUDIG, including; PUDICK, PUDICH, and PURDY. The PUDIG surname appears to
be either a Czech or a Slovok surname originally spelled PUDIC. Carl
Julius appears to have moved to FL for a time before returning to NY.
Wilhelm Christian moved to GA. The rest of the family remained in NY
although family tradition says that some of the family moved to VA and
TX. Johann Jacob may have moved to TX between 1900 and 1909. Johann
Carl is listed in U.S. censuses as either Charles or George. Any help
with the origin and meaning of this name would be appreciated . ANY help
with this family would be appreciated. Most of the family stayed in Queens,
NY. Are there any good sources for tracking down a family in NY from GA? I
tried the Archives but after an initial response they have failed to respond
to any further correspondence from me.
