Downs. Had 2 sons Sewell henry Downs Jr. and Wallace c. 1900. Elizabeth m.?
had dau Sylvia, both lingerie designers in NYC. There was a museum for
Elizabeth Staas in Riverhead NY. Anyone confirm that it is still there? If
not, where are the contents? Family lore says that their father Christian?
Staas emigrated from Hanover c. 1850, ran a grocery store at now-foot of
Brooklyn bridge in a german community there til c. 1910 thence to Riverhead.

DOWNS, SEWELL, HENRY: Family lore says that these were all fam surnames so SH
Downs Sr was probably oldest? Fam lore said that he was brought up on a farm
nr Riverhead, one of 12.

This is all I have so far. Hope this sounds familiar to someone. Have tried
to look up Staas Museum on web. No luck. Any responses to
