Calvin Lewis is one of the early land owners of Allegan and Barry Co. MI,
arriving there circa 1836. His first land purchase lists his place of
origin as Madison Co. NY. In 1839, he sold his land to William Lewis and
he is not on the 1840 census. By 1850, he has returned, settling in the
Allegan Co. area.
According to county histories on the area, Calvin and his brother in
Law, Benjamin Tryon came to MI first to set things up and then were joined
by William, who was Calvin's brother. Some time later, according to the
Obit, Benjamin left and "went East". Since Allegan is on the W. side of
the state, that location is not much help.
I would like more info on Calvin, his brother William and Seth or Hiram
Lewis who were also in the area. Vicki

P>S> what is the address of the Lewis Surname list - I forgot to put it in
my address before I purged the last letter. Vicki
