In the information below this there is a mistake. Allegany,NY is
a town of about 5,000 people located directly west of Olean, NY. It is
located in Cattaraugus County, the county seat is Little Valley.
Humphrey is also in Cattaraugus County and located between
Allegany and Great Valley in the hills.
Allegany County in NYS, borders Cattaraugus County to the east,
its county seat is Belmont, NY
In reference to Burton, it is present day Allegany, NY,
Cattaraugus County. There is/was a restaurant on the corner of 5th and
Main Streets in Allegany, NY named The Burton, the only reference I
recall of the old town name.
I grew up in Cattaraugus County and graduated from Allegany
Central School in the 1970's.
