Someone asked recently about wanting to hear success stories. Well, i hit
the pot at the end of the rainbow today (and it is raining outside as I
type this.)
Having found out about the GenWeb project through this mail list, I gave it
a visit and scanned the Herkimer County site. There I found a query that
mentioned the Guild family. I sent the person an e-mail message since my
ggggrandmother was a Guild.
Paydirt!! I received a reply today and the person is a 4th cousin to my
mother. He has a book that traces the Guild family back 300 to 400 years.
I have been looking for this family for 15 years and now all the pieces
have fallen into place. And it was through gen-nys that it happened.
Don't give up faith. Your relatives are out there somewhere. It is
projects like this and genweb that is bringing us together. Thanks Marc,
thanks to the person who maintains the Herkimer County site (sorry I don't
remember your name and I don't have it at my fingertips) and thanks to all
of you who keep this endeavor alive.
