I am looking for information on my g-g Grandparents,
Josiah Burnett and Clarissa Larue Ely.
Josiah Burnett they were wed in Canada. Although
both were born in NY State. Josiah b. 8/16/1822, in Broome,
Schoharie county. He was the oldest son of William Burnett
and Mary Couchman. Clarissa Larue Ely was the daughter
of William and Emily Ely. She was born 8/13/1825
in Oswego County. I believe that Clarissa's
Mother may have been French Canadian. Perhpas
her mothers surname was Larue.
I have a copy of a document from Josiah's civil war
pension file which lists the place of marriage as... it is difficult to
read...
something like "chamlileer cornessby by chambellerin in Canada".
Also says a marriage record exists in Brockville.
The date of the marriage was 2/8/1846.
To date, I have not found any more information on the Larue Ely
family. Also, I am interested in knowing why Josiah Burnett went to
Canada. I have some informaiton that there may have been other
Burnetts, Couchmans, and perhaps a distantly related family, the Winans
of Albany county who were in Ontario Canada.
Any suggestions on finding information on any of these ancestors
or the marriage certificate would be welcome.
