I am looking for information on my Burnett family,
particularly, William Burnett, my g-g-g Grandfather.
I know he was born in NY State. I am not sure where,
but perhaps Schoharie County, Albany County or
Duthcess County. I do know that he was married
in Rennselaerville, Albany Co.
in 1815 and was listed in Schoharie in 1820 Fed census.
I have not been able to match any Burnett head of households
from early Fed census, I have considered that the surname
may have been changed and I plan to look into that, Perhaps
changed from Burns or some other name or even a Dutch
name. I am interested in knowing the make up of early
Schoharie County settlers. I have been told a large number
of settlers moved into the county from Connecticut. I don't
know when that was though. I know there were Palentine
settlers and Dutch from early to late 18th Century.
My resarch has shown that there were also Burnett familes
who moved to the county from Long Island, Southampton
and Essex County NJ. I am stuck and I do not know how to move
forward. I don't know how to research land records or even
if they would be useful. It appears that Broome, Schoharie
may have been a part of the Schoharie, Starn Berger, Lawyer
and Zimmer or Scott patents.
I have even looked through cemetery records at the "Old Stone
Fort" Schoharie Genealogical and Historical Society. Though
I would like to look again. I found nothing. There was some mention
of Burnetts burried at a cemetery on Proper Rd. near Broome.
Any suggestions ideas woud be welcome.
