Looking for information on two families where I have been stuck for some
time. They lived in Greene County, NY, and Cortland County, NY, during
the late 1700s and early 1800s. The names were Ensign John BARR, who
made a name for himself in supporting Sullivan's troops on the waterways
of upstate NY during the Revolutionary War. I believe he had a wife
named Hannah (CHEVALIER) CORNWELL.

He also had a daughter named Mary who married Samuel CORNWELL and
apparently moved from Greene County to Cortland County in the early
1800s. Nevertheless, both died (as did two of their sons) in the fall of
1836 and are buried in the Cortland Rural Cemetery (sort of points to a
fire, family accident, or epidemic such as cholera, but do not know at
this point why all died the same time). One of the sons who died at that
time was Willet CORNWELL, my ggg-grandfather, of whom I derive my middle
name.

Any information would be most appreciative.

Thanks so much.
