Ancestors of George Harry SLATER

FIRST GENERATION

1. George Harry SLATER was born on 27 Sep 1863 in Sterling, Whiteside
County, IL. He died on 25 Aug 1952 in Omaha, NE. He was buried in Mt.
Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Ida County, IA. Ida Alice and husband
SLATER were from Isanti, MN in 1925 when Ida Alice (HARE) SLATER's
brother, John died. 1900 Soundex says Harry Slater was b Sept 1863 in
Illinois. He is living with wife, Ida Alice in Maple Township, Ida Co,
IA in 1900. Harry bought the Thomas farm, adjoining the Slater
homeplace. They moved to Isanti, MN in 1911.

SECOND GENERATION

2. Israel SLATER was born on 13 Nov 1834 in New York. He died on 23
Nov 1912 in Battle Creek, Ida County, IA. He was buried in Mt. Hope
Cemetery, Battle Creek, Ida County, IA. 1900 Census says that Isreal
SLATER's father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in New York.
In 1900 Census, Isreal and Minerva SLATER were living in Maple Township,
Ida County, IA. Per SLATER family notes, Israel and Minerva Slater moved
to Battle Creek from Sterling, IL in the spring of 1880 accompanied by
six children: Mary, Ida, Harry, Lula, Nina and Katie. They had lost two
children in infancy. A son Robert was born two years after they settled
in Battle Creek. Israel Slater was a veteran of the Civil war having
served in the 75th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged after
loosing a leg by amputation in the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. He
enlisted in Sterling, IL as a Private in 75th Regiment. His first day of
Battle of Perryville, Kentucky was Oct 8, 1862 and lost his left leg on
the first day of battle (left leg above the knee.) He was discharged Dec
5, 1862. He was married to Minerva MICKLE on 21 Nov 1856 in Sterling,
Whiteside County, IL.

3. Minerva MICKLE was born on 21 Dec 1839 in New York. She died on 2
Feb 1920. She was buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Ida
County, IA. In 1900 census, Minerva SLATER said she had 8 children born
to her and in 1900, 6 of those children were living. Both her parents
were born in New York. From family notes, Minerva Slater was English.
Israel SLATER and Minerva MICKLE had the following children:

i. Ella M. SLATER was born on 4 Mar 1858.
ii. Mary E. SLATER was born on 7 Sep 1859. She died in 1920.
iii. Ida E. SLATER was born on 29 Jun 1861. Ida (Slater) and
F.E.Waener had 4 children and lived in Battle Creek until they moved to
Veblen, SD where they died and are buried.
1 iv. George Harry SLATER.
v. Lula G. SLATER was born on 19 Mar 1872. She died in 1952. She was
buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Ida County, IA.
vi. Nina E. SLATER was born on 29 Oct 1877. She was buried in Tacoma,
WA. Nina and E.B. farmed in Blooming Prairie, MN until 1903 when they
moved to the State of Washington and lived out their lives in Tacoma
where they are buried.
vii. Katy M. SLATER was born on 16 May 1880 in Sterling, Whiteside
County, IL. She died in 1882.
viii. Charles Robert SLATER was born on 9 Mar 1882 in Battle Creek,
Ida County, IA. He died on 19 Sep 1969. Robert and Mabel lived in
Battle Creek until Oct 1915 when they moved to Isanti, MN.

THIRD GENERATION

4. Marcus Tullius Cicero SLATER was born on 28 Jul 1809 in Bainbridge,
Chenang, NY. He died on 8 Jul 1885. Marcus Slater was a carpenter by
trade. He was married to Maria MICKLE on 24 Mar 1831 in New York.

5. Maria MICKLE was born on 26 Nov 1810 in Carlisle, Schhr Co, NY. She
died on 20 Feb 1866. Marcus Tullius Cicero SLATER and Maria MICKLE had
the following children:

i. Amanda Ann SLATER was born on 4 May 1832 in New York. She died on
11 Dec 1854.

iii. Emily R. (Emma) SLATER was born on 8 Feb 1836 in Prob NY. She
died on 14 Apr 1912 in Blue Rapids, Marshall County, KS. She was buried
in Blue Rapids, Marshall County, KS.
iv. Susannah Isadore SLATER was born on 15 May 1838 in New York. She
died on 30 Oct 1840. Death date from Slater family information.
v. Henry Larkin SLATER was born on 6 Apr 1840 in Cooperstown, Otsego,
NY. He died on 2 Aug 1925.
vi. Gertrude SLATER was born on 28 Feb 1842 in New York. She died on
20 Jul 1914 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.
vii. Mary Jane SLATER was born on 6 Mar 1844 in Prob NY. She died on
13 Jan 1921.
viii. Albert Benjamin SLATER was born on 15 Jun 1846 in Prob NY.
ix. William Orlando SLATER was born on 29 Apr 1849 in Bradford County,
PA. He died on 22 Jun 1939 in Otswego, WI. He was buried on 26 Jun
1939 in Otswego, WI. From William O. Slater's obit of 1939:
"Nonagenarian Passes Away: William O. Slater, a Spanish War Veteran, the
second oldest in the United States at the time of his death, was born in
Bradford County, Pennsylvania, April 29th, 1849, and died Thursday, June
22nd, in his home at Otswego, Wisconsin. Mr. Slater's parents moved from
Pennsylvania when he was one and a half years old to Fulton, Illinois,
where he lived until he was 18 years old. Mr. Slater and his brother,
Henry, then went to Kansas. He railroaded all over the southwest, and
helped lay steel on the first road built through the Indian territory.
>From this country he went to northern Kansas, where he met and married
Mary Sanders of Lincoln Township, Washington County. They were married
the 25th of December, 1873. Mr. and Mrs. Slater traveled to Illinois in
a covered wagon before coming to Ida County, Iowa, where they made their
home until the death of Mrs. Salter. Five children were born to Mr. and
Mrs. Slater, four of whom survive. Robert Slater died when he was only
four and a half years old. Minnie Slater Hare, the oldest daughter, now
lives in Battle Creek, the other two daughters, Emily Slater Ellithorpe
and Alice Slater Lorenzen, both reside in Vancouver, Washington. The
son, Albert, has his home in Boise, Idaho. Not long after the death of
Mrs. Slater, William O. Slater moved to Otswego, Wisc, where he made his
home until the day of his death. He was married to Mrs. Ella Brozzard
the 24th of November, 1920. To this union one daughter was born, Beulah
Slater Wavra, who resides at Otswego, Wisconsin. Funeral and burial
services were held for Mr. Slater in Otswego Monday afternoon, June
26th, 1939.
x. Jeremiah SLATER was born on 13 Feb 1853 in Whiteside County, IL.
He died on 19 Jun 1934. In 1900, there is a Jerry Slater living in
Battle Township, Ida County, IA. He was born Illinois, both parents born
Pennsylvania. I believe this is probably a brother to William O. Slater.

6. George MICKLE was born on 19 Feb 1802. He was married to Elizabeth
MICKLE.

7. Elizabeth MICKLE was born in Jun 1803. George MICKLE and Elizabeth
MICKLE had the following children:

i. Lorenzo MICKLE.

FOURTH GENERATION

8. Isreal SLAFTER SLATER was born on 7 May 1782 in Guilford, New Haven,
RI. He died on 5 Jan 1865. Family notes say that Isreal Slater was
Pennsylvania Dutch. He was married to Susannah GAGE on 2 Feb 1808.

9. Susannah GAGE was born about 1780. Isreal SLAFTER SLATER and
Susannah GAGE had the following children:

4 i. Marcus Tullius Cicero SLATER.
ii. Mariah SLATER was born on 26 Nov 1810 in Prob NY. She died on 20
Feb 1866.

10. Jeremiah MICHAEL was born about 1783. He was married. Jeremiah
MICHAEL had the following children:

16. Joseph SLAFTER Capt was born on 10 Oct 1745 in Foster, Providence,
RI. He was married to Lois KING.

17. Lois KING was born on 15 Aug 1746 in Foster, Providence, RI.
Joseph SLAFTER Capt and Lois KING had the following children:

i. Isaac SLAFTER was born on 28 Jan 1765 in Foster, Providence, RI.
He died on 4 Aug 1847.
