David-- While everything you say is true, perhaps the error is due to
the fact that there WAS a Newtown in Suffolk Co in the very early days.
It is now East Setauket if I remember correctly and was called Newtown
to differentiate from the original Setauket settlement in granting
deeds. (The Newtown name was very short-lived, but it does show up in
Brookhaven Town Records in the 1600s).
