Rich:
Since you are looking at the date 1870, look for Westchester County
census. The annexations to the old City of New York were in 1872 [I
believe] and involve that part of the present Bronx from the Hudson River
to the Bronx River north to the present Westchester-Bronx line. The 1895
annexation carried the line east of the Bronx River to Long Island Sound.
I THINK [am not sure] that there is a Westchester index for 1870.
Do we have a Westchester expert on line to answer this?
1892, could be Westchester County or New York County depending on which
side of the Bronx River they were living on. There will be NO Bronx County
in either 1870 or 1892, since it wasn't created until 1914.
