In a message dated 97-01-05 23:43:36 EST, you write:

<< Are you familiar with the old Van Schaick house on Van Schaick Island
north
of Albany? Nearby is Peebles Island State Park. Peebles Island was named
for Garret Peebles who married Maria van Schaick. The Van Schaick family
originally owned Peebles Island. The family was related to Herman Melville.
See the new biography of Herman Melville by Herschel Parker.

Paul, I know that I responded to this earlier but I feel like my message to
you was abrupt. I apologize.

I had the good fortune to spend some time in the Albany area including quite
a bit of it in Cohoes doing research. I am a member of the Albany Institute,
NYGBS, Holland Society, etc. While I am familiar with many of the facts
surrounding my family I am always in need of further information. Given that
we can never complete the genealogical task at hand, I am never satisfied
with what I have, but am always looking for new clues and elusive tidbits to
flesh out my ancestors rather than be satisfied with the usual name, date of
birth, place of birth, date of marriage, place of marriage, children, etc.

If you will forgive me for my earlier response, I would like to know anything
relating to this family and particularly the source of the information. The
Peebles are a family I know little about other than their marriage into the
Van Schaick Fanily.

Have a nice day, and thanks again.
