In view of the discussion of New York State census for the last few days
on the New York lists, I checked my file of "The NYG&B Newsletter" and
found in the Spring 1994 issue [vol 5, No. 1, p. 7] a chart of the various
counties and the holdings of the NYG&B. They write that they now own on
microfilm all extent pre-1905 New York State census, except for Kings
County.
MOST counties are not complete and many go only to 1855, if that far back.
I'll list the EARLIEST census on microfilm:
Albany 1855; Allegany 1855; Broome 1825; Cattaraugus 1825; Cayuga
1855; Chautauqua 1825; Chemung 1855; Chenango 1855; Clinton 1892;
Columbia 1855; Cortland 1825; Delaware 1855; Dutchess 1865; Erie 1855;
Essex 1855; Franklin 1855; Fulton 1845; Genesee 1875; Greene 1855;
Hamilton 1892; Herkimer 1825; Jefferson 1825; Kings 1855; Lewis 1825;
Livingston 1855; Madison 1855; Monroe 1855; Montgomery 1855; New York
1855; Niagara 1855; Oneida 1835; Onondaga 1855; Ontario 1855; Orange
1825; Orleans 1855; Oswego 1855; Otsego 1825; Putnam - none; Queens
1892 [on microfilm after this list was printed in 1994]; Rensselaer 1855;
Richmond 1855; Rockland 1855; St. Lawrence 1845; Saratoga 1855;
Schenectady 1835; Schoharie 1825; Schulyer 1855; Seneca 1905; Steuben
1825; Suffolk 1865; Sullivan 1855; Tioga 1825; Tompkins 1825; Ulster
1855; Warren 1855; Washington 1855; Wayne 1855; Westchester 1905;
Wyoming 1875; Yates 1825
The list says some of these microfilms rolls are INCOMPLETE.
Nassau County [1899] would be included in Queens for 1892.
Bronx County [1914] none -- not yet in New York County for 1855; and
there's no Westchester until 1905, by which time Bronx was in New York
County.
THIS LIST DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 1915 or 1925 Census .
If any one would like the citations of what's available please e-mail me.
I hope this helps.
