Someone wrote in asking why the Irish might have settled in the Syracuse area
in 1850 time period.
The Erie Canal which went through Syracuse was being expanded in this time
period and I believe that a lot of Irish were hired as laborers. There may
be a lot of other reasons on why they came to the US in the first place but
this may explain whey they came to upstate New York
