Yes, there were valid legal disputes between Trinity Church and Anneke's
heirs, esp. in the 1700's. The NYG&B Record articles covers them in detail
and points out why the heirs lost.
I believe the thrust of the original question "late 30s" is more in line
with the frauds and scams in which hundreds of people were bilked out of
lots of money by "lawyers" and "genealogists" by being told that millions
of dollars were just sitting there waiting for them .... IF they paid the
"lawyer" first.
