I have been interested in a Farrington family that was among the early
settlers of the Towns of Nassau and Schodack in southern Rensselaer County.
Jacob Farrington was an early settler along the Valatie Kill on the east
edge of the present Town of Schodack; his farm was located on present Route
203 (Chatham Street) just south of the Village of Nassau. I used to live
almost on the original Farrington farm. Jacob Farrington received a lease
from the Van Rensselaers in 1790. Jacob Farrington died about 1792, the date
of his will. He named his wife, Eleanor, and brothers Robert and Gilbert
Farrington.
Robert Farrington was born probably in the 1750s and took over his
father's farm. The farm was leased in 1799 to Jacob P. Hermance. Robert
Farrington may have had family connections in Kinderhook, Columbia County,
where he was a witness in a wedding. But I don't know where the Farringtons
came from, or where Robert or Gilbert Farrington went.
Mary Farrington was likely a daughter of either Robert or Gilbert
Farrington; perhaps did the family move to Otsego County?
