They certainly do have some state censuses on film and they certainly do
lend them... though I know some localities and dates are missing (esp.
prior to 1845).
And these censuses -- at least the 1855-1875 ones -- are wonderful, if your
ancestor was in a rural enough area or if you know the election district
they were in (since by and large there are no indices -- except a few years
and localities), since they asked questions the Federal census never did.
For instance, the 1855 one has an entry for how long each person has lived
in that place. The 1865 one has special questions relating to Civil War
service. Persevere: these censuses are worth the effort. (I've heard the
1892 census was a real turkey, though.)

Counties. Most are split between 2 or 3 reels and you need to know the
township... for Chenango 1875 you have to guess where the division point
